A true hunger for change needs your fire to fuel it

Dear Reader,

At what point do you have to stand up and say ‘enough is enough’?

It seems some residents have reached their breaking point, if the planned march and proposed shutdown of the town is anything to go by.

Recent spikes in both property rates and municipal bills have left most of us flabbergasted.

For years, residents have taken to social media in outrage, to slam the Newcastle Municipality about poor service delivery and exorbitant rates increases.

Previously however, meetings between concerned parties have resulted in lacklustre results.

I have a theory about this – people are hungry for change, but sometimes lack the fire needed to fuel that change.

This week, residents say they will put the Newcastle Municipality ‘under administration’ by its own citizens.

Newcastle belongs to all of you.

Will you join with those who are driving change?

You only have to look at protests nationally to know that unity forces those in power to listen; and they will be forced to listen.

Don’t be content to remain voiceless – stand up and have your say.
