Baby ‘sharks’ do their parents proud

Because babies spend nine months happily secure in water in the womb, all babies do love water she added.

At the end of its three-month baby swimming course, the Swim Studio presented each baby with a certificate representing achieving their goals.

It was a celebratory day for parents, grandparents and close ones, to watch their little ones splash away.

“Safe methods are used to teach babies through sing-song led play. Parents are required to accompany their babies to keep them calmer, thus learning these methods themselves to repeat at home,” said Shani Mason, who is in charge of communications for Swim Studio.

“The Swim Studio’s priority is to instil a mindset of safety. Water is not a playground; unfortunately, it is deadly. It is our responsibility as parents to enforce all methods of safety, whether it be a well-secured
cover, fence or swimming lessons from birth. It is a basic required life skill, the same as looking before we cross the road.”

“However, they often become unfamiliar due to restrictions. Therefore, this course is a guideline to teach the parent and child how to act and what to do in the water. It will help babies become familiar with water in a safe manner, as well as re-instil their natural love for it.

“A natural reaction of someone with no prior guidance would be to get a fright, breathe under water and they might even drown, which is every parent’s worst nightmare.”

Mason said it was crucial to repeat the instructor-guided course until the age of three, because with age, the abilities of babies change.

“Practice makes perfect, especially with babies; endless repetition is required. Thereafter, the child will move over to a learn-to-swim instructor, without the parent having to join in the pool.”

The Awards Day proved all the babies love the water, and parents and babies enjoyed quality time together.
