Athlete flexes his global muscles

Bonginkosi was born in Madadeni and grew up in Nkanini, Grootgeluk Farm.

Bodybuilding has taken Bonginkosi Zulu from Madadeni to South Korea.

30-year-old Bonginkosi raised the South African flag high, when he represented the country at the WFF Universe Championships in South Korea on June 22 and 23, competing against 159 athletes from 39 countries.

He took 11th position in the Mr Fitness Model competition.

Bonginkosi was born in Madadeni and grew up in Nkanini, Grootgeluk Farm.

After finishing his matric, he moved to Johannesburg to pursue a career at Sibanye Stillwater, where he is currently working.

Bonginkosi said he’s been doing bodybuilding for a while now.

“I started bodybuilding in 2006 at Kloof Gold Mine. I put my whole energy into the sport and went on to win at the South African championships twice in 2015. I won again in 2016 at the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) and the World Fitness Federation (WFF) competitions. I have competed in many other competitions, one of them being the IFBB Mr. Universe World championships, held in Taranto, Italy in 2016. I took fourth position in Mr Fitness Athletic, in a competition that included athletes from 21 countries.”

Zulu has a total of 30 trophies and 51 medals since he started bodybuilding, and his accolades include winning the Sports Model Fitness in the Pretoria Classic competition on May 25.

He said his family has been his source of support.

“I would like to thank God for all my achievements since 2010 when I started bodybuilding, and my family, especially my wife for the consistent support. My friends for the donations they continually make and my sponsors, including Sibanye Stillwater, for taking care of every event that I attend.”

Bonginkosi encouraged the youth to reach for the stars.

“I would like to encourage young people to not limit their thinking and to push hard to make their dreams come true. With all my achievements, I hope I can inspire any young person to not give up and always keep their eye on the set goal. It is never easy but every effort you make in building your dream is worth it.”

Bonginkosi began a Bodybuilding Judging course in 2017, and became a qualified judge in 2018.
