Will mayor’s murder charges be dropped?

Newcastle Mayor, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba, appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate court today.

The court came to an agreement to postpone the case to August 15.

The mayor appeared in court today in connection with the murder charge he is facing with regards to the assassination of ANCYL leader, Wandile Ngobeni.

Court Proceedings

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will study the representations before making a decision as to whether it will proceed to trial or if charges will be dropped.

Attorney, Ravindra Maniklall called it anticlimactic day in court, saying he was confident that the representations are compelling.

Jomo Sibiya, Chris Nhlope, and Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba discuss matters after the court proceedings.

Dr Mahlaba says he has only provided the prosecution with a third of the evidence he has but he is confident it is enough to prove charges against him were fabricated.

Outside the court, supporters were getting frustrated that the court case has been postponed again.
