The JKA South African National Championships were held at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg recently.

According to Sensei Johan Swart, there were more than 3 500 entries from the nine provinces in South Africa.

“The Northern KwaZulu-Natal JKA Region held extensive training sessions leading up to the prestigious event, and it is with pride and happiness we can announce outstanding achievements from the karateka of novice and elite divisions, who brought home 95 medals in total; of which 20 were gold, 32 were silver and 43 were bronze,” said Sensei Swart.

He added that the Championships was an extremely prestigious event, and therefore being selected to represent your province was a great honour and something to be proud of.

“Some categories had more than twenty contenders, and by ending in the top four in their respective divisions the competitors were awarded their national colours in JKA karate and received well-deserved certificates,” he continued.

“On behalf of the management and karateka of NKZN JKA, we would like to thank the organisers and people behind the scenes, who made this event possible,” concluded Sensei Swart.
