Our town is no longer safe for families

What has our beloved town turned into? Where a child has to watch his beloved father die in front of him.

Madam –
It is a sad day when people are getting killed in Newcastle and we are seeing more and more of this happening.

I remember when I first moved to Newcastle about 24 years ago, and my family lived in the suburbs. It was so quiet and peaceful, we never gave a second thought to our children riding their bicycles around the neighbourhood for hours at a time.

Before there were cellphones, we never worried about anything other than whether our kids would come home with scraped knees and bruised egos.

We knew we could trust the residents in our street and other streets to keep an eye on our children. They had hours of fun playing with other children in the area and only came home to have something to eat, and then they would head out again until sunset.

Now, we had hundreds of things to worry about. The age of cellphones was supposed to mean we could keep in touch with out children at all times to check they are safe.

Instead, now we have to worry about who they are talking to and who is bullying them on social media.

I long for the old days, when things were more certain and life without cellphones and social media was more peaceful.

Now, we cannot even let our children out of our sight for a second, especially when you think about the alarming rate of kidnapping and child trafficking,

What has our beloved town turned into? Where a child has to watch his beloved father die in front of him.

What is happening to Newcastle?
