Phoenix Cricket Club rises at special event

Newcastle Phoenix Cricket Club Secretary, Jacques Jordaan said the club looked forward to the next season.

The Newcastle Phoenix Cricket Club held its end-year function and prize-giving on May 10, at the Anchor Nursery Hall in Signal Hill.

The current team’s cricket players and ‘old boys’ gathered for a night of celebration, to highlight last season’s successes.

Newcastle Phoenix Cricket Club Secretary, Jacques Jordaan said the club looked forward to the next season.

“We are thankful for the past season and definitely looking forward to the upcoming season. I am glad we all gathered and everyone made time to be here; it shows a team effort from everyone. A special thank you to the club committee, who were committed in everything they do, and we are just as grateful to all our sponsors.”

Newcastle Phoenix Cricket Club founder, Craig Maney, traveled all the way from Australia to be present at the reunion and was pleased with the work the members had put into the club.

The awards presented were:

NDCA Batsman of the Year: Henri Linde.
Amajuba Batsman of the Year: Christopher Ewart.
NDCA Bowler of the Year: John Clark. NDCA All Rounder of the Year: Graham Sharp.
Bowler of the Year: John Clark.
Batsman of the Year: Henri Linde.
Most Improved Player: Elmar Gouws. All Rounder of the year: Christopher Ewart.
Player of the Season: Graham Sharp.
