Electricians condition improves ‘ever so slightly’

"There is still a long way to go but at least there are out of danger'

The condition of two municipal electricians, Andre Vorster and Kallie Karelse, who suffered severe burns after working on an electrical substation near Saverite Supermarket, Glencoe, on Saturday, is improving ‘ever so slightly’.

Kallie Karelse Senior who is at The Netcare Bay Hospital in Richards Bay to be with his son said both are looking better than they did and the doctors are ‘quite happy’.

However, there is still a long way to go as Andre suffered at least 87% burns and Kallie about 65%.  Mr Karelse thanked all those who have passed on messages of support to the pair.

Mark Donaldson, Endumeni Municipality’s Electrical Manager, said the pair suffered body burns from hot insulating oil contained in an MV switch while performing switching procedures in Glencoe town.

Both electricians were taken from Dundee Hospital to Netcare The Bay hospital in Richards Bay for urgent treatment.
“We pray for them and their families that they make a full recovery.
