Policeman, wife shot and injured in wild-west style shoot-out
Two others were also shot as was at least one armed robber
A policeman and his reservist wife were shot and injured in a wild-west style shoot-out this morning. Â Warrant Officer Bruce Simpson and his wife, Corrie, were injured when their policevan came under fire on Victoria Street from a gang robbing Pick and Win Supermarket shortly after 9am.
Corrie was shot in the neck. Â A young by-stander was also shot and injured in the shoot-out as was a woman who was shopping at Pick and Win when about 10 men – armed with AK 47 rifles and 9mm pistols – entered the shop.
It is thought that more men were waiting outside. Â At least one of the robbers was shot and injured, police said. Â Some gang members were dressed in Emergency Medical Rescue Service overalls in a bid to deceive police.
Police recovered an amount of money when they arrested eight of the men. Â The other gang members are thought to have driven off towards Pomeroy.
Customers spoke of their shock as to having a quite Sunday morning thrown into bloody chaos. Â The blood stains at the entrance to Pick and Win Supermarket bear testimony to the ferocity of the shoot-out.

Where is the police presence in the town to stop such things?
Where is a campaign or word from the police department that they will be doing something to increase protection?
These are not just break ins when nobody is around. These are incidents in broad daylight that put the lives of innocents at risk and yet the police just sit quitely and carry on doing the easy work off picking up a drunk guy off the street.
Yes it is sad that the police officer and his wife were injured, but the fact that he was travelling with his wife in a police vehicle is testament to the fact that police officers are too busy using the vehicles for personal use and that is why they can never respond to other situations.
In this country we and town we cannot even feel safe from our officers or trust that they will help us in a time of need.
Hopefully now they wake up and do something about it. Soon people will start taking the law in to their own hands and there will be complete chaos!
