Local anglers land monster-sized fish in Klip River

The group of anglers spent a few hours on the banks of the river, hoping to catch some big fish

Sundays are usually quiet days to stay at home and relax, but for some, the sound of a fishing reel screaming out as the line is pulled taut by a massive fish really gets the adrenaline going.

This is the Sunday of a fisherman who goes out to a dam or river to see what he can catch.

Last weekend was one of those days, when local fisherman Sathar Khan and his son Muzakheer, along with Sudesh (Cheese) Singh, went down to the Klip River to “cast in lines and see what bites”.

The group of anglers spent a few hours on the banks of the river, hoping to land some big fish, and this turned out to be the order of the day.

The ‘drag’ of the reel opening up echoed along the riverbanks as Muzakheer landed his first fish, which was a whopping 6.4kg carp. Sathar also managed to land a monster-sized carp of 9.4kg, which was the biggest haul of the day. The carp seemed to be biting and not to be outdone, Cheese hauled a whopper of a specimen onto dry land, weighing in at 8.1kg.

The anglers landed many other fish, ranging in size from 4kg to over 9kg, all caught with floaties.

A great day of fishing on the banks of the Klip River!
