Uncle sentenced for kidnapping and cutting up child close to Ladysmith

The child's body parts were recovered in 2 pit toilets in Driefontein

Njinga Sicebi Sibiya was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for murder and two years for kidnapping in the Ladysmith Regional Court on Monday (May 27).

He stood accused of the murder and dismemberment of eight-year-old Celimpilo Nosbusiso Sibiya, who went missing from her home in the Bhatha area of Driefontein (under the Elandslaagte policing area) in November 2018. A missing persons docket was opened and registered at Elandslaagte police station.

Elandslaagte police investigated the case, with the assistance of other units such as the Ladysmith K9 Unit.

Sibiya, who is the uncle of the victim, was arrested after he led police to two pit toilets in the Driefontein area. A gruesome scene awaited the officers, as the child’s body parts were recovered in the toilets.

The missing persons docket was changed to murder, and Sibiya was arrested and detained. He was denied bail.

The court case has now been finalised and the accused will serve a hefty sentence for his heinous crime.
