Ladysmith police come under heavy gunfire from hijackers in CBD

The hijackers abandoned the Toyota Quantum and fled into dense bush

During the early hours of yesterday morning (Monday, May 20), Ladysmith police officers were fired at while attempting to stop a hijacked vehicle.

A Toyota Quantum was travelling along Keate Street and when the occupants saw a police vehicle approaching, they started shooting at the police.

The officers retaliated, causing the hijackers to abandon the Quantum and flee into dense bush.

None of the police officers were injured in the shooting.

A search has been launched for the suspects.

It has been established that the Quantum was hijacked in the Harrismith area.
