People vote while Steadville resident deals with leaking pipe

"What's the use of wasting my time standing in long voting queues when my home is in a shambles?"

Many people were excited to vote on Wednesday (May 8), but not Bongani Buthelezi from Jabavu in Steadville…

Bongani says he didn’t get time because he was busy attending to a leaking water pipe that never seems to get fixed.

“The only time my family has relief from this leaking pipe is when there is a water cut,” he laments. According to Bongani, the problem has been going on so long that he and his neighbours have reported it to their councillor.

“What makes me even more concerned is that all these unfixed pipes add to the problem of water wastage and water shortages we are facing. So what’s the use of wasting my time standing in long voting queues when my home is in a shambles due to the fact that the municipality is failing us?” complains Bongani.

The ward councillor of the area, Nkosinathi Mbatha, commented that he is well aware of the problem and that plans are afoot to remedy the situation.
