MUST READ: Taxis pull into Trim Park grounds

The department further assured residents that motorists' safety would not be hampered by the taxis.

The intended recreational use of Trim Park is slowly been driven away, as the park becomes a temporary parking bay for taxis.

Over the past three weeks, a number of taxis drivers were seen plying their business in the park on Allen Street.

But according to a statement issued by Newcastle Municipality’s Communication Department, the taxis would not be a permanent fixture in Trim Park.

“The taxis parking in Trim Park are taxis which are used to transport school learners. Currently, negotiations are underway to secure a space for these taxis in Voortrekker Road,” the statement read.

The department further assured residents that motorists’ safety would not be hampered by the taxis.

“Inspections and routine patrols are done on a daily basis, to ensure motorists and the community were not compromised by taxi operations.”

However, as negotiations were still underway, it could not be established when the taxis would be vacating Trim Park and using the new premises on Voortrekker Road.
