Medals won and records broken at swimming gala in Ladysmith

The swimmers participated in 114 events in their respective age groups

On Saturday and Sunday (January 19 and 20), Ladysmith Marlin Swimming Club held the annual Long Course Championships at the Ladysmith Municipal Swimming Pool. Only swimmers registered with a club can participate in this gala and it is alternated with Amajuba district every year.

Ladysmith Marlin Swimming Club, Newcastle Swimming Club, Aqua Adrenalin Swimming Club (Newcastle), Pongola Swimming Academy and Vryheid Swimming Club took part.

The swimmers participated in 114 events in their respective age groups.

A total of seven records were broken, of which one had been standing for 30 years. Congratulations to all the swimmers who made it to the podium and also those who swam personal best times.

Ladysmith Marlin Swimming Club would like to thank the parents for giving up their time so the swimmers can practice and giving them the opportunity to swim at galas.

All 11 swimmers from Ladysmith Marlin Swimming Club entered the gala and did the club proud by winning 54 individual medals and five relay medals.

Kegan Byrne, Sarah Byrne, Kara Fourie and Amy Gerber qualified for Level 2 that will take place in Sasolburg.

Anke Fourie qualified for Level 3 in Bloemfontein.

Anke Fourie, JJ van der Hoogen, Justin van Vuuren and Kyle van Vuuren qualified for the SA Open Water Championship in Jeffreys Bay on March 2 and 3.
