We take a look back on floods which have affected the town in recent decades.

Newcastillians have commented the recent floods in Newcastle were eerily similar to those in the past.

Here we take a look back on floods which have affected the town in recent decades.

Domoina – 1984

In February 1984, Cyclone Domoina brought about heavy rains in Northern KwaZulu-Natal and left widespread floods and havoc in her wake.

The Buffalo River breached its banks and the bridge across the river at Ingogo was swamped by swirling floodwaters. The usually calm river transformed into a raging torrent, flooding large areas of farmland and crop along its banks.
