Newcastle residents, please be alert

I just happened to keep on noticing him that he wasn't working but looking at our house all the time. He couldn't see me because I was on our verandah.

Madam – January, 6 – Newcastle residents, please be alert!

I live in Rider Haggard Road, Pioneer Park.

Yesterday at about 1pm, I was in front of our house cleaning out our gas braai when I happened to notice a guy on top of a ladder at the corner of our yard inspecting the telephone line. I just happened to keep on noticing him that he wasn’t working but looking at our house all the time. He couldn’t see me because I was on our verandah.

I thought maybe he was from Telkom because they have been working on the lines lately. So I decided to go and ask him what was wrong, as our line was working perfectly.

As soon as the guy realised I was walking towards him, he quickly climbed down the ladder and put it away on top of his van and rode away in a hurry. I then realised that it wasn’t a Telkom van.

I think this man was looking around our yard to see if anybody was at home when he spotted me.

This morning my husband and I went to Telkom and reported what had happened yesterday. The lady at Telkom informed us that none of the technicians were working at the moment as they were all on leave until January 16.

What does this tell you? Please people of Newcastle, be aware of this person who is obviously up to no good.

Pat Biljon
