Business suffers following sewer leak

"We are losing business because the leak is in front of the shop and is an eyesore for our customers"

For the past two weeks, business owners and staff in parts of Albert Street have been desperately trying to get the attention of district authorities over a water and sewer leak.

The leak, which a staff member from a business says is a combination of sewage and clean water, is flowing in front of a takeaway and butchery.

Besides the obvious health hazard, the staff member added that the leak is beginning to affect customers.

“We are losing business because the leak is in front of the shop and is an eyesore for our customers,” he said.

Hoping that the leak would be repaired timeously, one of the business owners contacted uThukela District Municipality and reported the problem.

“uThukela staff came, looked at it and went back. Nothing was done to repair it,” said the staffer.

Residents are now desperate to have the leak stopped and hope that an article in the newspaper will prompt the district authorities to take action.

These concerns were forwarded to uThukela District Municipality’s communication department for a response.
