A dream comes true for Gogo Makhathi

This housing project is one of the service delivery initiatives by government and in this case, senior citizens were the beneficiaries

It was a new dawn for 10 households in Loskop (Ward 3 and Ward 5) recently.

This milestone was realised when Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Mayor Jabulile Mbele, together with councillors from the wards, visited families on June 9. This housing project is one of the service delivery initiatives by government and in this case, senior citizens were the beneficiaries.

According to the mayor, urgent need for shelter was the reason for this ‘activity’.

Senior citizens are part of what government calls vulnerable groups and therefore need to be properly cared for.
Most households are also dependent on an elderly pension grant for survival, since the triple challenge of poverty, inequality and unemployment is rife in South Africa, especially in the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality area.
itnessing this great leap forward and congratulating the beneficiaries were Cllr SE Mbongwa (Ward 5), Cllr BN Mpembe (Ward 3), Cllr P Mgaga (Ward 1), Cllr SE Ndumo (Ward 6), Cllr Hlongwane and Mr Mdakane (the Induna for the Magonsi area).

Gogo Makhathi broke into tears of joy, saying, “I never thought I would stay in a house like this.”

She did not forget to mention that God had answered her prayers through this government initiative that has changed people’s lives in many ways. In a most considerate gesture, the contractor also donated food parcels to each beneficiary on the day.
