Teams clamp down on stock theft

Following a second lead, the team went to KwaBagwana in the Ngome area, where two suspects were arrested

Task teams attached to the Zululand Cluster Stock Theft Unit and involving K9 units from Ulundi and Vryheid were in the field for two days recently, following up on information that eventually led to several arrests regarding stock theft cases in various areas of Zululand.
At first, the team was led to eMkholokotho, where one suspect escaped but a roll of fencing was recovered (which was reported as stolen). Following a second lead, the team went to KwaBagwana in the Ngome area, where two suspects were arrested and the owner of four goats identified the stolen stock. The team then moved to the Okhukho area, where they recovered three of seven cattle reported as stolen and earmarked as payment towards Lobola. The case is linked to the suspects in the Ngome case. One suspect is still on the run.
Another two suspects were arrested when the task team recovered five out of 16 goats that were stolen from a homestead in the Dutshini area. In the Kwagwebu area, nine cattle were reported as stolen, but the team could only recover four and they were identified by the owner. These suspects were arrested and will appear on three counts of murder after allegedly killing the owners of stock at Gluckstad.
