Disaster management team on standby with heavy rains expected in NKZN

KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Sipho Hlomuka has placed disaster management teams on alert with inclement weather conditions expected in northern parts of the province in the course of today.

Reports received from the South African Weather Service indicate that the uMkhanyakude and King Cetshwayo districts may experience heavy rains, from this afternoon and tomorrow, that might lead to localised flooding.

Hlomuka has urged communities to take the necessary safety precautions. “We are appealing to communities residing in low-lying areas to seek shelter until the adverse weather conditions pass. We are also appealing to parents and teachers to ensure that pupils utilise safe routes to and back from school,” said Hlomuka.

Disaster management teams will be monitoring all areas that are prone to localised flooding.
