Al Jama-ah councillor offers matriculants free help during the lockdown

"I want to use this opportunity to visit the hard-hit and marginalised within our communities"

Al Jama-ah councillor Kabelo Nthekiso, who is also a president of the Progressive Student Movement, has offered to send and deliver free Grade 12 study guides during the lockdown period.

Cllr Nthekiso has deployed tutors to respond and assist learners with online questions related to their subjects. He is doing this free of charge and calls on all learners, specifically from the Inkosi Langalibalele region, to use this opportunity to reach out and ensure that they get the relevant assistance during this difficult period.

“I want to use this opportunity to visit the hard-hit and marginalised within our communities. I am talking about the learners who don’t have access to smartphones, and deliver hard copies to them. I also want to ensure that these learners keep studying and reaching their goals. This will be for the benefit of our municipality after all,” says Cllr Nthekiso.

“I am motivated by the request I received from learners who are desperate for study materials. As a student myself, I know the importance of having study material and this is why I went the extra mile to assist matriculants. Our learners need to keep busy and this is an opportunity to get them busy with their studies. The online tutors will be starting on Wednesday. I have a guy from NWU who will be assisting with Mathematics, while I will be doing Life Sciences. One from UCT will be in charge of Accounting and we also have others from various institutions who will help with various major subjects.”

He adds that, “I went to Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality with the sole responsibility of developing young people. Even though I work under difficult conditions, I shall develop the lives of the young people of Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality,” he concluded.
