Local MTB riders are still pedalling virtually

They miss the beautiful sunrises, but most of all, the laughter and camaraderie of the cycling friends

Vryheid mountain biking is the biggest ‘lie’ ever at the moment.
It’s actually more like ‘Vryheid backyard riding’, or just sitting on a stationary bike and cycling like crazy next to the pool or in a lush green garden and really going nowhere. Rouvy hills and Zwift wings are the only places some riders are cycling at the moment.
According to Strava, the best of the best are still doing their utmost to keep the legs moving and stay as fit as possible, during the 21-day lockdown period.
Vryheid MTB is proud of Hannes van Staden, who has done a 100 kilometre and two 60km rides.
Lourens Vlam de Beer, Martin Schoeman, Rudolf Vissie Pretorius and Ernest Franzen have also regularly done a couple of virtual group rides on Zwift, also completing a couple of 100km distances.
Riders are all trying to hold on to their senses and find sanity in this lockdown, doing introspection and spending precious time with their families while staying fit.
The riders all agree with Hannes van Staden, about really missing cycling on the beautiful plantation single tracks and the wide open spaces. They miss the beautiful sunrises, but most of all, the laughter and camaraderie of the cycling friends.
