Nofta elects new committee

Madadeni Nofta required a revamp and other upgrades, which their minimal funding could not accommodate.

Newcastle Organisation for the Aged (Nofta) held its Annual General Meeting on November 16.

The AGM was attended by the Nofta umbrella body, comprising of Madadeni and Fairleigh Nofta members, as well as the outgoing Nofta executive committee.

The purpose of the meeting was to elect a new executive committee. Rajesh Ramdaw secured his title as president unanimously, determined to continue his excellent service to Nofta. Gladys Nxumalo was elected as vice-president. Bully Singh gladly accepted his reappointment as secretary.

The position of treasurer was granted to Morris Gajoo, after an in-depth discussion on the importance of raising funds and the need to extend the umbrella body to oSizweni and Blaauwbosch.

Mr Ramdaw explained Madadeni Nofta required a revamp and other upgrades, which their minimal funding could not accommodate. He said obtaining funds was a major responsibility which should be given to a member willing to go the extra mile to benefit the organisation, and Mr Gajoo was the perfect candidate.

Lucy Mavuso and Mary Peters were elected as representatives for Siyahlala-la and Fairleigh respectively.

Members were concerned the Older Persons Act was outdated. Mr Ramdaw said a special general meeting and workshops would be held early next year to respond to this issue.
