Inkosi Langalibalele roll out the ‘Back To School Campaign’

Municipal team headed back to school to help children gear up for the year

The holidays are over and it’s time to get back to business, especially for teenagers. With schools re-opening last week, an air of expectation and uncertainty hovered over their heads.

With this in mind, Mayor Jabulile Mbele, accompanied by Inkosi Langalibalele councillors and faith-based representatives (ESCA) Ms VB Mhlongo and Miss S Zungu, visited two schools on January 20.

The purpose of the visit was to stress to the learners the importance of education through a programme commonly known as the ‘Back To School Campaign’.

The first visit was to Themba Primary School in Ward 14, where the children were given a full school uniform. The team then proceeded to Emahhashini Primary School, where the mayor and councillors handed over 15 school bags, along with stationery and 12 pairs of school shoes courtesy of Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality.

This was in partnership with the Al-Imdaad Foundation, who donated 25 school bags and socks to Emahhashini Primary School learners. The mayor said that the ‘Back To School’ and ‘Dress A Child’ programmes seek to motivate learners to concentrate on their studies as soon as the year begins.

She also mentioned that learning isn’t just an in-class exercise, but requires initiative and effort outside the classroom. She said it is always advisable to begin with an end in mind and that all school-going children need to be focused, optimistic and dedicated to their schoolwork.

Ms Mhlongo from ESCA motivated the learners by reading out of the Bible from the Book of Deuteronomy, 28: 1 & 7.
