Visitor appalled by the state of town

Ex-Estcourt resident is disappointed in the way Estcourt is looking

Editor – I spend the December / January holiday period in Estcourt with my family members.

Every single year, I am appalled at the state of ruin that the town has fallen into. During my last visit, I was even more disgusted to see the state of the roads.

It seems like there are no roads in Estcourt that are not damaged or potholed. How do people drive or even walk on some parts of these roads?

I also say walk because the pavement in the central business district are in a terrible state as well. One could easily take a terrible fall on the broken pavements.

If this happens, whose fault is it? Who will compensate the victim for medical costs? With the vast amount of rain we had, the roads are getting worse.

When will the residents start seeing some improvement? Secondly, I noticed that there is rampant illegal dumping EVERYWHERE.

When I questioned my family, they said that after a recent dip in the refuse removal services, some residents have taken to illegally dumping their domestic refuse anywhere they like.

Take for example the terrible sight in front of the Forderville sport grounds. I saw cattle feeding off the heaps of rubbish there, this is so unhygienic. As for when it will be cleaned up, my family tells me that is anyone’s guess.

Why have residents stopped taking pride in their town? Do the residents of this town actually care about what the place looks like anymore?

What about the municipal management? Do they personally drive around the town and see for themselves the extent of the rot?

I was also so saddened to hear that two major factories have been closed. It makes me wonder if any investor would seriously consider bringing new business to Estcourt, considering the way it looks.

And lastly, I would like to say that I am wholly disappointed in the way Estcourt is looking and implore to the municipal management and every single resident to act before this town is plunged into absolute neglect where not much can be done to save it.
