Brother of the deceased Calwyn O’reilly took to social media with this post:

“I have a few questions for the Estcourt police. Is there a security company who is tasked to patrol the Princess Park area? When do they patrol the area and how come the public don’t know about it? Why do we only hear about them in the newspapers? Where are they when crimes are committed #we need answers.”

This stems from an article published in the Estcourt News in which it was stated that ‘security personnel’ working in the vicinity of the Princess Park Bridge recovered the lifeless body and then alerted police.

According to the family, this is false.Addressing the issue, police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi said he cannot dispute the information he has received from police.

A cell-phone was recovered at the crime scene and Captain Nyathi added that police are still investigating the case, as well as the cell-phone status.

Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Mr Nduli wishes to remind locals that they face a challenge of not having enough police in the country.

Mr Nduli gives his assurance that he will do a follow-up on the family’s concerns and speed up the investigation so that justice can be served for the family. He sends his condolences to the O’reilly family.

Estcourt Blood Clinic co-ordinator Mr SM Dawoonarain remembers Mr O’reilly as pleasant, humble and full of smiles.

“On behalf of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), we pass our heartfelt condolences to the family of this regular blood donor. His last donation was made on October 10 last year, when he bled his 16th donation,” he said.

Estcourt police would appreciate anyone who has helpful information that could possibly lead to arrests or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Investigating officer Sergeant Ntuli can be contacted on 036-342-9520/5 or 082-346-7155.
No arrests have been made in the case at this point.
