Stepbrother gets life in prison for raping 12-year-old sister

The accused evaded arrest until he was traced to Driefontein, where he was arrested and held in custody until the matter was tried in the Madadeni Regional Court

Madadeni Court sentenced a 27-year-old man to life imprisonment on Monday last week (February 5) for raping a 12-year-old girl.

On May 27, 2012, the victim was at home in the Blaaubosch area of Osizweni with her younger brothers and her stepbrother. The younger brother noticed his sister sitting on the stepbrother’s lap in the toilet and reported the matter to his parents. The parents questioned the accused about it, but he denied doing anything wrong.

He then fled to his mother’s house in Driefontein.

The victim confirmed the incident and was taken to the doctor for examination.

The girl had sustained serious injuries. The case was handed to the Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for further investigation.
