They can visit the parkrun website and follow the instructions.
Parkrun events are always free of charge and take place every Saturday at 7am during summer.
To get registered, alternatively send your full name, date of birth, e-mail address, the name of friend plus their contact number to Smuts on 082 442 4986, in order for you to get a barcode for this coming Saturday.
“See you all on Saturday.”
How to get involved as a volunteer
Finding out about Vryheid parkrun couldn’t be easier. Simply open a recent parkrun newsletter, results email or volunteer email, click on ‘manage my profile’, then ’email options’, then select the events you’d like to hear from and click ‘save opt-in events list’. You will then receive regular emails from those events, letting you know all about their volunteering opportunities. You can see an event’s future volunteer roster via its specific future roster page. To get in touch with the event directly, send an email to vryheidhelpers@parkrun.com.
What would I do at the event?
First, and most importantly, Vryheid parkrun never asks anybody to do anything they’re not comfortable with. If you don’t want a particular task, let organisers or coordinators know and they will assign you an alternative job.
Tasks are generally not stressful – a volunteer could organise the finish funnel, operate the timer or scan runners’ barcodes with the simple barcode readers. Generally, Vryheid parkrun starts people out on a general marshaling type job, so they can get a feel for how it operates.
“If you really want to do something in particular, please let us know and we’ll see what we can do.”
Remember that as a volunteer, you are the eyes and ears of parkrun.
If you have any concerns which arise at a parkrun event, whether involving children or adults, these should be discussed as soon as possible with the event director on the day, or via email to the head office: eventsupport@parkrun.com.
Do I get my ‘name in lights’?
Vryheid parkrun likes to recognise and publicly thank all its volunteers, and your name will appear on the home page in the This Week’s Heroes section. It also keeps a log of which tasks everybody has done. To do this, you need to be registered on the system.
If you have not registered, visit the parkrun registration page and fill in the simple form.
Many thanks to this week’s heroes: Amanda Vergottini, Anet, Am Koegelenberg, Annel Prinsloo, Elizabet Roets, Ivan Reyneke, Linda Webster, Lorna Webster, Marianne le Roux, Marlene Noomè, Martin Potgieter, Neels, FJC Koegelenberg, Paula Small and Smuts van der Nest.
