Suspect gunned down by police

A man between the ages of 40 to 50 years was shot dead by the police in Ntababomvu, Thelezini area near eMondlo on Tuesday afternoon, January 21.
According Zululand Cluster, Capt Nkocy Gwala the police received an urgent information about a person intimidating to kill his family members and that the suspect was in possession of unlicensed firearm.
The POP, Zululand and Stock Thefts Task Teams together with Vryheid K9 Unit were dispatched to the area and the suspect attempted to shoot at them.

“On arrival, the suspect was standing outside with a gun. Instructions were given to the suspect to drop his gun and he only answered by just shooting them and he never hid or run away.
“Two members of K9 Unit came closer with an intention to grab him on the back; he just fired shots towards them and they then retaliated towards the suspect, saving the officers. He got shot and fell on the ground with his corked ready to fire 9mm Parabellum Pistol which is a prohibited firearm declared by Minister of Safety and Security. An inquest case have been opened at eMondlo SAPS”, added Capt Gwala.
According to the report, the police members were unharmed and the suspect was charged with attempted murder, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of ammunition.
