Police and Cllr Warasally went out to the area, where the suspects were chased and apprehended

A tip-off led to suspects being arrested and appearing in court after a house was broken into on Tuesday (January 30) in Calendula Avenue.

Nobody was at the home at the time of the burglary.

Numerous items were stolen, including a television and groceries.

While investigating a case of housebreaking, local detectives made a breakthrough in the case.

IFP councillor Abbas Warasally was tipped off by a member of the community that the stolen items and the suspects were in Umbulwane.

Police and Cllr Warasally went out to the area, where the suspects were chased and apprehended.

Two suspects were arrested for the break-in, and a further four people were arrested for buying stolen items.

The suspects appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Friday (February 2).

Cllr Warasally said that about 80% of the stolen items were recovered by police. He thanked the investigating officer for making arrests so soon, and added that it was good to see police officers chasing suspects in the streets like the good old days.
