Day of Reconciliation: President Ramaphosa urge people to work together

President promotes reconciliation during his keynote address at the Bergville Sports Complex

A government delegation headed by President Cyril Ramaphosa was at the Bergville Sports Complex on December 16.

The President, accompanied by government officials hosted the Reconciliation Month Dialogue. The emphasis is on indigenous languages under the theme:

“Year of Indigenous Languages: Supporting national reconciliation through the promotion, development and preservation of indigenous languages.”

In his opening remarks Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa said that this day was declared by the United Nations to preserve indigenous languages.

Premier Sihle Zikalala said this was a moment to reflect on progress made so far to build a non-racial and prosperous nation.

“It cannot be that farmworkers are still subjected to appalling working and living conditions. Likewise water provision must be distributed to all, ” said the Premier.

He commended Okhahlamba for attaining clean audits for five consecutive years. Delivering his keynote address the President Cyril Ramaphosa emphasised that reconciliation is about healing the wounds of the past by ensuring that there is peace and harmony among various groups of people.

President Ramaphosa urged people to work together to resolve the issue of land dispute between landowners and the dispossessed. Uthukela District Mayor Cllr AS Mazibuko gave a vote of thanks.
