Arrests abound as SAPS begin to clamp down on stock theft cases

This recent arrest has added to the previous three arrests made late last month.

SAPS continues to fight against the high number of stock theft incidents in Vryheid and surrounds.
Three more suspects, between 37 and 40 years of age, were arrested for stock theft last Friday by the Ulundi Public Order Policing (POP) Unit and the Vryheid Tracker Unit, together with members of the Vryheid Stock Theft Unit.
The suspects appeared in the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court on Monday and were remanded into custody until January 2020.
This recent arrest has added to the previous three arrests made late last month, and has increased the number of stolen animals recovered in the area to 21, with all the stock identified by their lawful owners.
“These operations, aimed at curbing stock theft in the province, will continue throughout the festive season.
“We are appealing to communities to come forward with information that will lead to the arrest of stock thieves. Anyone with information on criminal activities is encouraged to make use of the My SAPS app by downloading it on any Apple or Android device,” said SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General, Khombinkosi Jula.
According to the police, more arrests were imminent.
Officials said cases were being reported and more suspects would be ‘falling into the police’s trap’ during ongoing Safer Festive Season Operations.
