ANC region pays tribute to late Jabulani Nxumalo

'Mzala' was regarded as a 'leading theorist'

On November 24, the ANC Vryheid Sub Region hosted a memorial lecture for Jabulani ‘Mzala’ Nxumalo at the King Zwelithini Hall.
Keynote speaker, Mike Mabuyakhulu (ANC Provincial Deputy Chairperson: KwaZulu-Natal) congratulated ANC members of Zululand region on the change of name from AbaQulusi to Mzala Nxumalo, in remembrance of the late author, columnist and activist.
Nxumalo also held one of the country’s highest honours – the Order of Luthuli (silver) – awarded in 2010 after his death in 1991. The late Mduduzi Percival Ngonyama took an interest in Nxumalo’s life and found in his research ‘Mzala’ was regarded as a ‘leading theorist’ and commented his ‘literary style was quite accessible’. Ngonyama continued stating Nxumalo could ‘adopt phrases and analogies common in everyday language’ and borrowed proverbs from the isiZulu language to illustrate his points, which placed him in the ‘league of literary authority’.

Mike Mabuyakhulu sits alongside leadership of the ANC’s Mzala Nxumalo and Vryheid sub-regions.
