Poet aims to feed the ‘creative soul’

To some, poetry is considered to be ‘for the elite’.
Local poet, Bongani Ntuli wants to eliminate that stereotype.
Ntuli will host the first ever poetry show in Glückstadt, aimed at promoting the art form and getting youngsters involved in showing off their creativity with the written word.
“A lot of people do not understand that poetry is art, and as a poet myself, it is my duty to promote it, educate and to get others involved. Poetry is not only for those who are considered ‘exclusive’, but it is for anyone: young or old, educated or not, rich or poor. It is an amazing art; it unites us.”
Ntuli will visit two high schools and one primary school in the Glückstadt area soon, to give learners the chance to showcase their poetic talent and talk about any topic they wish.
The best will then be granted an open mic opportunity at the show.
“It is my belief that even youngsters are capable and talented, hence I will visit schools to pick those learners who show passion and love for this art. I will grant them a stage where they can share their talent with some of the seasoned poets and who knows – maybe some of them will one day become world-class poets.”
Ntuli also hoped to attract residents from outside the Vryheid area to perform at the event.
“We already have some poets coming from Durban. If there any more other poets who would like to take part in the show, they are more than welcome to be part of this amazing set.”
The Othisha Bempilo poetry show takes place on November 30 at Glückstadt Community Hall, from 11am until late.
It will also feature music from local maskandi artists.
