Tourism workshop discusses ideas for Vryheid businesses
It was revealed several lodges in Vryheid were forced to close their doors, due to the high cost of basic services
Local businessman, Sifiso Ngwenya uttered some inspiring words at last Wednesday’s Vryheid Tourism open meeting, hosted at Black Horse Lodge just outside town.
“We have enough brains around this table to create events in Vryheid.”
The astute businessman was speaking at a meeting, which called upon local accommodation and establishment owners to put their heads together to uplift one other, and in doing so the entire local tourism industry.
This they hoped to achieve by sharing ideas and advice on how to deal with the challenges they face.
One of the most prominent of these challenges is the so-called astronomical cost of municipal tariffs, and the pressure this expense places on local business owners.
It was revealed several lodges in Vryheid were forced to close their doors, due to the high cost of basic services.
Another issue raised at the meeting was the cancellation of the annual Vryheid Tourism Road Safety Awareness Roadshow, which usually takes place at the beginning of the December holidays annually.
Director of Town Planning and Strategic Development, Stefan Landman and Vryheid Tourism Chairman, Gustav Röhrs are to issue a press release on this matter.
Röhrs was however, pleased to announce that Vryheid Tourism will now host monthly meetings with Landman and explained this was a very positive step forward for local tourism.
Local polygraph examiner, Peter Barry was also in attendance and gave a short presentation on the benefits of his services to business owners in the hospitality industry, specifically as a means of pre-employment testing and incident specific testing.
“What better way to ensure you are providing top quality service, than by employing staff you can trust?” asked Barry.
Honey Nkosi, owner of Black Horse Lodge, served as hostess for the day and provided guests with a delightful lunch in the lodge’s restaurant area.
