Soccer success from the Shooting Stars

After 29 wards participated in a soccer league and three play-offs, there could be only one winner.

This title was claimed by Shooting Stars from Alfred Duma Local Municipality (Ladysmith), who were victorious in the Uthukela District Club Development U/15 Football Championship.

The event was staged at the Wembezi Stadium on a scorching Saturday (November 2).  Six teams from Okhahlamba, Inkosi Langalibalele and Alfred Duma local municipalities met on the field to claim the title.

Competitiveness and sportsmanship were the order of the day as the matches kicked off.  To sweeten the deal, two scouts in the form of Ayanda Mkhize and Nhlakanipho from Amazulu Football Club were present and have shown interest in some of the players.

One of the organisers, Themba Shabalala, said that those players would be called to show off their skills at the club’s headquarters soon.  Winning team Shooting Stars walked away with new soccer kit, a trophy and medals.

“The level of soccer played was good and the event went very well. I would like to thank the local business sponsors, as well as my business partner who supported me. She is exceptional!” concluded Mr Shabalala.
