Alleged former lover guns down teacher

Tragic shooting to death of a school teacher on the Natal Spa Road

The shooting to death of a school teacher on the Natal Spa road on Monday morning, will have a sequel in the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court this week.
There, a man will appear on a charge of murder.
According to a report from SAPS Zululand Cluster Spokesperson, Captain Nkocy Gwala, the 34-year-old teacher was shot dead after the car she was driving in, while on her way to school with a colleague, was flagged down by a man standing at the side of the L426.
Police said the man allegedly opened fire as the car came nearer, with a bullet hitting passenger, Nondumiso Khumbule in the right arm.
The driver attempted to flee on foot but was shot in the head and died on the scene.
The gunman then got into the victim’s vehicle and drove towards Paulpietersburg, where he abandoned the car before hitchhiking towards Swaziland.
It is understood the firearm was thrown into a dam along the route.
Police divers have been deployed to retrieve the pistol.
The gunman was then arrested at the Swaziland border crossing and will appear in court this week.
He was said to be the estranged boyfriend of the victim, who had previously opened two separate cases against him: one in June for attempted murder in Paulpietersburg and one last week in Vryheid for pointing a firearm at her.
