Anglers reel in R37k for Vryheid Hospice

Vryheid Social Boat Forum held a fundraiser in the form of an angling competition in aid of Hospice

The Vryheid Social Boat Forum held a fundraising event this past weekend.
This angling competition was in aid of Vryheid Hospice and an astonishing amount of R37 000 was raised.
It was an extremely challenging event due to the economic climate, but the community and businesses of Vryheid pulled together. There were no incidents or injuries reported either.
AfriForum patrolled the entire weekend to safeguard anglers, who came from neighbouring towns and as far as Pietermaritzburg, Richards Bay and the Eastern Cape.
Results were as follows:
Carp: First – Ian Meyer: 3,315kg. Second – Nick Dekker: 3,085kg. Third – Izak Muller: 2,950kg. Fourth – Chris Visagie: 2,665kg.
Kurper: First – Neels Visagie: 0,650kg.
Barbel: First – Johannes Britz: 9,600kg. Second – Ian Meyer: 7,725kg. Third – Izak Muller: 7,090kg. Eel: First – Ian Meyer: 1,635kg. Second – Danie Boshof: 1,415kg. Bass: First – Henk Fourie: 3,570kg. Second – Neil Fourie: 2,730kg.
The winners of the weekends away were: Bevan Lourens (Bivane Dam) and Duncan Moolman (Madaka Game Farm).
Vryheid Social Boat Forum extended its heartfelt thanks to all donors and sponsors, as well as AbaQulusi Local Municipality for its contributions in terms of the use and maintenance of the premises. The competition was based on catch and release, and delivered more than 300 fish.
“Thank you to to all members (as well as wives) and to the Vryheid community for a successful day. Until next time – tight lines.”

Jaden Dippenaar waits for that perfect bite on the line.
