Another public holiday for South Africans

The Public Holidays Act 1994 states that whenever a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be a public holiday.

The presidency has released a statement declaring December 27, 2016 a public holiday due to December 25, Christmas Day, falling on a Sunday.

This comes after a request by Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa) to President Jacob Zuma to officially declare the holiday in order for workers to get their 12 paid public holiday’s.

Section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act 1994 states that whenever a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be a public holiday.

December 26, Boxing day, is also a public holiday.
