Pothole damage? Here is how to submit a claim to the municipality

The procedure to follow when you need to submit a claim for pothole damage

Municipal Manager Patrick Mkhize says that these steps need to be taken when submitting a claim for pothole damage to Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality:

1. Stop at the incident spot immediately.
2. Report the matter to the local traffic police and police to get an incident report.
3. Take photos of the pothole or whatever caused damage to your car.
4. Take pictures of the affected tyres or damaged areas.
5. Request a quotation or an invoice from the nearest dealer.
6. Technical officers will be sent to the place of the incident to verify the cause of the incident, and traffic officers need to verify the speed you were travelling at the time.
7. Send an incident report, pictures of the pothole and tyres, invoice or quotation to the Municipal Public Works & Basic Service Department.
8. A report will be sent by the department, authorising reimbursement from insurance through the Asset Management Unit.
