Learners take up the ‘Giant’ hike

The learners trek on foot or by bicycle up to Giants Castle

Every year, Treverton’s Grade 10s are part of the “Giant” hike.  This is a coming-of-age adventure that tests the young men and women both physically and mentally.

They have to face personal challenges as well as group challenges.  They spend 14 days out in the wilderness, hiking, canoeing and cycling to summit Giants Castle and then make their way back.

While they have plenty of logistical support from the school, they leave from the school premises on foot and by bike, and return in the same fashion.

They are not driven to the base of Giants Castle.  At the end of the hike, the bikes that the children have fund-raised to purchase are donated to needy people in the area.

These bikes are built to be able to carry heavy weights and handle dirt roads.
