Another politician was shot at last week, narrowly escaping a suspected assassination attempt.

Okhahlamba Local Municipality Speaker Sthembiso Zulu was attacked by armed men last Tuesday evening while he was on his way home from work.
Mr Zulu was travelling in a municipal vehicle when it is alleged that a white bakkie, bearing no registration plates, intercepted him.
An unknown number of armed men opened fire on Mr Zulu, with a total of 11 bullet holes piercing the vehicle. The Speaker was fortunate to escape uninjured.
Okhahlamba Local Municipality Mayor Mlungisi Ndlangisa confirmed that the suspected assassination attempt took place at about 6.25pm in Ward 6, which is close to Mr Zulu’s home.
“As the council and on behalf of the entire municipality, we are thankful that there were no injuries and that the Speaker remained unharmed. I would like to urge the South African Police Service to take swift action in investigating this matter.”
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Sipho Hlomuka has expressed shock at this assassination attempt on the Speaker and said that the recent spate of violence directed at public representatives in municipalities must stop.
