This year the competition will be held in the Czech republic.  The competition is in Vyssi Brod/Herbertov area. The six-member team, as well as a coach and manager, will spend a few days before the competition practising in the waters.

William and his parents had to raise R71 000 for the South African Fly Fishing Association (SAFFA) for this trip, he did receive some donations but the family were hard at work tree felling to make this possible.

In 2017 William fished in an International competition in Czech Republic for the SAFFA team -SA 2nd team.  Last year he proudly represented the Protea team at World’s in Poland. William is the only member from 2018 team fishing this year again.

The expected number of competitors is 50. The teams are split one member in each group – five groups of 10.  The competition is fished over three days, each person draws the section to be fishing in for that particular session.

Each session has a marshal that measures and records catches. (No fish is allowed to be handled by fishermen, only the marshal ) One session is fished from boats with two competitors on the boat.

Not every fish counts – different fish species has different minimum lengths.  One gets points per fish caught that counts as well as the total length of all fish added together.

William is still in need of a few items for this trip and if anyone is interested you can contact his dad – Dave Gilbert on 083-407-3154 to sponsor him.
