Intrepid Vryheid cop discovers that missing man was murdered

Mrs Hadebe identified the body of her son, which had three shot wounds, one on the right side of the face at close range and two at the right side of the chest.

LOCAL SAPS member, Jethro Khumalo, showed that he is truly one to call on, in case of an emergency after he brought down the suspect who allegedly murdered his neighbour’s son.

Warrant Officer Khumalo was at his home in Mondlo when he was contacted by his neighbour, Sibongile Hadebe, requesting his help as her son, Thokozani Hadebe, had gone missing on January 6.

Mrs Hadebe explained that Thokozani had left in a Toyota bakkie to go and see his girlfriend in Nquthu and never returned home. Mrs Hadebe reported her son missing two days later after attempts to locate his whereabouts had proven futile. The only information she received was that the tracking device in the car that her son was travelling with, showed that the car was in on Julies Street in Johannesburg.

Mrs Hadebe then contacted a relative and asked them to head out to the Jeppestown Police Station and notify the police about the vehicle, as it was in their area. The police are said to have headed out, found the vehicle and arrested the man that was found driving it. The man was found to be from the Nquthu area and was arrested for the possession of stolen property.

“I then called the Nondweni police to try and find more information aboutthe suspect but instead got information regarding a dead body that was found in Nquthu on the 8th of January,” W/O Khumalo explained. W/O Khumalosaid that he then took Mrs Hadebe to Nquthu SAPS where they were informed that the body had been taken to Dundee mortuary.

Mrs Hadebe identified the body of her son, which had three shot wounds, one on the right side of the face at close range and two at the right side of the chest. A murder case had been opened in Nquthu.

“I then headed out to the suspect’s home in Nquthu where I found a white VW Polo with no number plates. After looking into that, we found that the Polo had been hijacked in Jeppestown,” said W/O Khumalo. Khumalo would like to thank all SAPS members who helped make the arrest. “This case is a very sad one as this was the only family member Mrs Hadebe was left with. Now her son has been brutally murdered and she is left with absolutely no
one,” he said.
