The Estcourt couple live in Forderville and have been Estcourtonians all of their married life.

Shrugging off age barriers and opposition from family, young 17-year-old Chanmathie met 24-year-old Ramgath at a market and immediately knew they were destined to be together.

The age difference was an issue for family members, who initially did not want them to be together. However, this did not stop them from falling in love at a tender age and planning their secret rendezvous.
After convincing their parents to accept their relationship, they were married on June 30, 1969, at Mrs Drigpal’s parents’ home.

While starting their family in Estcourt, the couple worked at businesses in Estcourt. They had four children – Sudesh Ramgath (49), Anesh Ramgath (46) (who are deceased), Venod Drigpal (44) and Nerisha Drigpal (40).

The couple believes that marriage is built on love, trust, loyalty, friendship and sacrifices, while facing good times and bad times. One of their pillars is supporting each other and growing strong together. Communication is of utmost importance as well.

“No matter what life puts you through, have faith in each other and always stick to good values and have firm faith in God to guide you through your life’s journey,” is the advice they give other couples.

Their secret to a long-lasting marriage is being able to support each other through tragic and tough times.
The Drigpals will be celebrating their golden anniversary with loved ones.

Congratulations!
