Tau Senye was the Animal Health Technician at the Estcourt State Vet in Heritage Road. Mr Senye joined the Department of Agriculture in 2002 after completing his Honours Degree in Animal Health from the University of North West.

He was deployed in Weenen and later was sent to work in Mooi River. In 2007 he was transferred to work in the Ntabamhlophe area where he spent ten years, thereafter he was transferred to the Okhahlamba State Vet Office in Bergville as the Control Animal Health Technician.

“There I was responsible for veterinary matters,” he told.

Mr Senye will be remembered for going above and beyond the call of duty. Over the many years, he created an amazing bond with numerous farmers working hard to ensure the safety and health of animals.

“I was also in charge of dog and cattle vaccinations, conducting tests, collecting blood from cattle, treating cattle for warts (intsompa), castrations and organising stock sales,” Mr Senye added.

The stock sales in Ezinyosini were always a big hit; Mr Senye would begin planning weeks in advance.
He would ensure that temporary work was created, made sure that the stock sale yard was well taken care of, at such sales the highest bid for a bull during the auction was R13 800.

Through this, local farmers and cattle owners made a profit from the livestock. The Senye family will be relocating back home to the North West province and will be based in Vryburg.

“My wife, who taught at Enkomokazini as well as my three children who attended Drakensview Primary School who made this move with me in 2014, will join me. I am going to miss the outpouring of love and respect shown to me and my family by the community of Estcourt, Mooi River, Weenen and Bergville,” he said fondly.

The family says that they have made friends and extended family all around the UThukela district and promised to visit once they get settled. A farewell party was thrown recently at the Bergville State Vet Office and farmers from Bergville, veterinary staff from the UThukela offices, other officials from around the province including the director of Veterinary Services, Dr T Sikhakhane and Dr J Cameron from the Vryheid State Vet Office attended.
