50 anglers cast their lines for carp competition at Wagendrift Dam

A 'fishy' fundraiser for Estcourt Hospice Association and Forderville Primary School

Just five carp were caught at the Carp Challenge Fishing Competition held at Wagendrift Dam on Sunday with 50 entrants supporting this fundraiser.

While patiently waiting for a fish, this family posed for a photo.

Anglers and their families settled in for a beautiful day at the dam however, the fish had other ideas, with many participants saying they had no luck.

Akhil Sewbran struck ‘gold’ 15 minutes before closing time when he netted a 750 gram carp, making him the overall winner and bagging the R1 500 cash prize.

Runjay came in second place and Nitesh Jogi scooped third position.

“Special thanks to the sponsors and anglers for supporting the event. Tight lines until next time. Support catch and release for the sake of our children,” commented the organiser Mr Sookraj.

Anusha and Dharam Sewraj were among the participants.

Estcourt Hospice Association and Forderville Primary School will benefit from this fishy fundraiser.
