Storm damage assessment in Estcourt continues

Colita and Forderville residents are in the process of remedying the damage caused by a thunderstorm

The chaos and clear-up after the freak storm two weeks ago, is the cause nightmares for homeowners. The vast majority of homeowners who were affected are from Forderville, Rensburgdrift Hill and Colita.

They have suffered property damage ranging from moderate to serious, with collapsed walls and roofs ripped off.
Affected families have resorted to clearing the debris and what remains of their belongings in order to create temporary relief from weather elements.

“We have received no response from the Disaster Department, but Social Security Services Agency (SASSA) Estcourt Branch is still in the process of issuing relief to the storm victims,” explained Ward Councillor Edith Lite.

She added that since last week a further 20 homeowners reported storm damage to roofs and windows.

One other Forderville resident complained about a drainage issue following the storm.

“As a result of the storm I have murky brown water filling up in my toilet and bathtub,” informed Ms Amika.
