Mr Mbatha is still reeling with shock after he was woken up by the deafening sound of four gunshots being fired through his bedroom window at 4am last Wednesday.

When the gunshots were fired, he was fast asleep and woke up in terror, realising it’s not a dream.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the shooting but it has left deep fear behind.

“It is very hard living like this, having to watch your back all the time, not knowing who it is, when they may return and if they will. It is definitely someone who is aware of where I live and so forth. It keeps playing on my mind and I don’t know if today is my last day to live,” explained a disturbed and traumatised Mr Mbatha.

“Police must thoroughly investigate this case and bring the culprit or culprits to book,” he added fearfully.

Mr Mbatha is still very shaken up to think, he has survived what is believed to be a ‘hit’. A case of attempted murder is being investigated by Wembezi detectives.

“The incident occurred in Depot section. No one was injured during the incident,” commented police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

A source who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons said: “The shooting followed after some members of the party disagreed on Mr Mbatha stepping down as the Election Co-ordinator. Such factions are destroying the organisation.”

The shooting has put the Mbatha family’s lives at risk and sparked distress among them. Until justice is served, Mr Mbatha will be living in constant fear.
